British economist and professor from Oxford University with a lecture at Zlatarski International School
This week at Zlatarski International School we welcomed Sir Tim Lankester, a prominent economist and professor at Oxford University, who gave an inspiring lecture to our students in Grades 11 and 12. The lecture was devoted to the financial policy of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, examining the ambitions and results of the reforms introduced in the 1980s and their legacy in the context of the modern economy.
Based on his recently published book on the subject “Inside Thatcher’s Monetarism Experiment: The Promise, the Failure, the Legacy” (2024), Sir Tim Lankester’s lecture offered a unique insight into this important period in British economic history. Sir Tim graduated from Cambridge University and Yale University, worked at the World Bank and was the Iron Lady’s economic private secretary, giving him profound knowledge and undisputed authority on matters of political economy. The lecture was extremely interesting for anyone interested in economic history and contemporary monetary policies.
Sir Tim Lankester provided our students with a rare opportunity to become familiar with an analysis of one of the most significant economic periods in modern history. The students of Zlatarski International School study in depth Economics and History in our upper secondary school (Grades 11 and 12), and this lecture was extremely useful for the teachers and students of our school. This year Zlatarski International School of Sofia celebrates 30 years since its establishment!
