Sports day at Zlatarski International School

At Zlatarski International School in Sofia, sport is a core part of our educational philosophy. This autumn’s Sports Day was a vibrant celebration of teamwork, perseverance, and the joy of learning beyond the classroom.

The school’s playing fields came alive with the energy and enthusiasm of students from all grades. Competing in basketball, volleyball, football, badminton, table tennis, athletics, chess and team challenges, students demonstrated not only physical skill but also leadership, collaboration, and resilience — values that lie at the heart of a Zlatarski International School education.

At Zlatarski, we believe that education extends beyond textbooks and exams. Our educational approach recognises that sport teaches vital life lessons: how to face challenges, respect others, and work towards common goals. Sports Day exemplifies this philosophy, bringing together students, teachers, and families in a spirit of sportsmanship.

We are also proud to have many students who are champions in sport, representing Zlatarski — and Bulgaria — in national and international competitions. Their dedication and success inspire the entire school community and remind us of the power of discipline, and hard work.

“We see sport as a classroom without walls,” said one of the school’s leaders. “Every game and every race is an opportunity to learn about yourself, to grow, and to build confidence.”

“Sports Day is one of my favourite events of the year,” shared a Grade 8 student. “It brings everyone together — we cheer for each other and have so much fun.” “I love being outdoors and I was so proud to be part of a winning team,” shared a Grade 5 student. “Students from different grades work together and that makes the day really special,” shared a Grade 10 student.

The day concluded with cheers and smiles — but more importantly, with a shared sense of accomplishment and school community. Whether scoring a point first or cheering from the sidelines, every student contributed to the spirit of the day.
