Vice Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva gave start to the school year at Zlatarski International School
Zlatarski International School set the start of the 21st school year in a festive atmosphere with many smiles and positive mood. Students, teachers, parents and guests went through pleasant times in the greens of the school yard, and tuned for a successful and full of content year. The school was founded in 1995 as a language school, and in 2003 it became the first International Baccalaureate (IB) school in Bulgaria.
Vice Prime Minister of Bulgaria – Meglena Kuneva, greeted the school community with a welcoming speech to students, teachers and parents. She emphasized on the importance of education in the competitive environment of free society. Her words clarified how important the application of knowledge is, and that her formula for success is “knowledge, character and right attitude”. She kindly shared her positive impressions, which the professionalism at Zlatarski International School, the school facilities and the students left her with.
Among the honorable guests was the vice president of the National Assembly Yavor Haytov, a parent to a current student of the high school.

Dr. Metodi Ivanov – advisor of the Ministry of Education and Science and doctor in economics.
Nadezhda Todorova – head inspector of the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Educations and Science and long-year friend of the school on its way to international education. Mother of our alumna Valentina Todorova, class of 2008, who graduated in the IB Programme and went on to a bachelor’s degree in UK.
Nina Dimitrova – An acting professor at NATFA, popular actress, founder of “Kredo” theater. Her plays “The Overcoat” by Gogol and “What the Old Man Does Is Always Right” by Andersen have been awarded with many international awards, as well as the special Ikarus award by the Bulgarian Actors Union. Also a parent of a student in tenth grade.
Dr. Alexander Nikolov – humanitarian scientist, professor in the Sofia University’s history faculty . Author of numerous scientific publications and monographs.
Velina Beleva – vice mayor of Studentski region, and Ani Todorova, head of Education department in Sofia municipality.
In his own welcoming words, Mr Metodi Ivanov also read the text by minister Tanev, which aimed to welcome the students of Bulgaria. Nina Dimitrova – придобила световна известност със спектакъла „Шинел“, encouraged our students to seek themselves and called upon the teachers to develop the best skills in the student. By sharing his observations on the development and approval as a successful institution of Zlatarski International School, Dr. Nikolov raised the importance of the humanitarian education and the challenges within our times.
Director of Zlatarski International School Mrs. Tsvetanka Kardasheva invited the new students from 8th grade to learn from the elders, but also to contribute for their own creativity. She introduced the new teachers, as well as the new head staff: Dr. Boris Todorov, doctor in Medieval History in California University Los Angelis and a descendant of Prof. Dr. Vasil Zlatarski, and Mrs. Nina Georgieva, teacher in Bulgarian language and literature and author of school programs.
Ina Lekova, a student from 8a, shared her excitement towards the new school year. Niya Borisova, student of the year for 2014/2015 school year, wished her classmates luck, and Mihaela Milenkova, Valedictorian of class of 2015, summoned patience and thirst for knowledge in the future graduates.
“Our achievements are a logical result of the constantly optimizing school process” – said Boris Todorov, “On one side it is supported by new technologies, and on the other side Zlatarski International School is proud of its experienced teachers, who are the force behind the development and establishment of the school programs and their optimal fit within the National educational requirements and the requirements of the International Baccalaureate and Cambridge International Examinations.“
Founded in 1995, Zlatarski International School has established a name of a school integrating the International Baccalaureate and IGCSE. Thanks to the first class educational system, profiling in 11 and 12 grade and the excellent results on international exams, the graduates of Zlatarski International School continue their educations in top universities in Europe and Bulgaria in majors like genetics, biomedicine, architecture, computer engineering, law and economics.
