Outstanding results in the Cambridge IGCSE exams for Zlatarski International School of Sofia in 2024
In 2024, students of Zlatarski International School of Sofia performed excellently in the Cambridge IGCSE exams. In addition to the National external assessments, our students also sat the IGCSE exams in English, Mathematics, History, Information Technology, Biology and Physics. This year, thanks to the hard work of teachers and students, our 10th graders achieved the incredible 22 A* grades, 27 A grades, 31 B grades and 29 C grades. A result between A – C in the IGCSE exams is positively valued by the world’s universities, certifying readiness for successful education according to international standards. Our students received their Cambridge IGCSE certificates at a special ceremony at School.
An IGCSE record for the school in 2024 was set by Simon Atkinson who achieved 5 outstanding A* grades (A*A*A*A*A*) in English, History, Information Technology, Mathematics and Physics. The top IGCSE student achievers this year are Iva Spasova (A*A*AA) in Mathematics, English language, History and Information technology; Arnav Atsev (A*A*AA) in English, Physics, Mathematics and History; Kristian Mihailov (A*A*ABC) in English, Biology, IT, History and Mathematics; Deyan Grigorov (A*A*BB) in English, History, Mathematics and Biology; Doriana Karpacheva (A*AAC) in English, Mathematics, History and IT; Ilia Ivanov (A*AB) in English, Mathematics and History; Ivan Dimitrov (A*ACC) in English, History, Mathematics and Biology; Yoan Kopetsky (A*BBBC) in English, Maths, Biology, Physics and History; Momchil Nikolov (A*A) in English and History; Emil Svetoslavov (AAB) and Teodora Dimitrova (AAC) in English, History and Biology; Damiana Kostadinova (АBB) in English, Mathematics and Information technology; David Bedecs (A*BC) and Raya Paleva (ABC) in English, History and Mathematics.
The Cambridge IGCSE English exams include listening, reading, speaking and writing components. In 2024 in IGCSE English (extended) 90% of students were graded by Cambridge with results of A – C, and 13 students achieved maximum grades A* (result above 90%), these are: Doriana Karpacheva A*, Ivan Dimitrov A*, Ioan Kopetsky A*, Martin Ivanov A*, Arnav Atsev A*, David Bedecs A*, Emma Panayotova A*, Iva Spasova A*, Kristian Mihailov A*, Simon Atkinson A*, Deyan Grigorov A*, Iliya Ivanov A* and Stefan-Alexander Kisimov A*. This is an outstanding success and these results prove the quality of teaching in English at Zlatarski International School of Sofia.
Mathematics: The best results in IGCSE Mathematics (extended) were achieved by Iva Spasova, Simon Atkinson, Doriana Karpacheva, Arnav Atsev, Iliya Ivanov and Kristina-Julia Georgiev. IGCSE Mathematics exams include questions on algebra, geometry, trigonometry, vectors, probability theory and statistics.
History: In IGCSE History Momchil Nikolov, Simon Atkinson, Deyan Grigorov, Doriana Karpacheva, Ivan Dimitrov, Arnav Atsev, Emil Svetoslavov, Iva Spasova and Teodora Dimitrova have excellent A results this year. History exams cover components such as World War I, World War II, the creation of the League of Nations and the United Nations.
Physics, Biology and IT: Kristiyan Mihailov, Simon Atkinson and Iva Spasova achieved the highest results in IGCSE information technology. The IT exams consist of 60% practical exams and test knowledge on databases, spreadsheets, computer networks, applications, file management and security. With the highest results in IGCSE Biology (extended) and Physics (extended) were Arnav Atsev, Kristian Mihailov and Simon Atkinson. Biology exams include sections on Organisms, Movement in and Out of Cells, Biological Molecules, Enzymes, Plant and Human Nutrition, Respiration, Disease and Immunity. IGCSE Physics exams cover topics such as Motion, Forces, Thermo-physics, Waves, Electricity and Magnetism, and Nuclear physics.

Anna Walker (Class of 2024) achieved maximum IGCSE results (A*A*AA) in English, History, Maths and Information Technology.
Atanas Dimitrov (Class of 2024) achieved IGCSE results (A*AAA) in Mathematics, English, History and Physics.
Borislav Grebenarov (Class of 2024) achieved IGCSE results (A*AAA) in English, Maths, IT and History.
Nina Chakinska (Class of 2023) achieved IGCSE results (AAAA) in English, Maths, History and Biology.
Dimitar Kostov (Class of 2023) achieved maximum A*A*A*A* IGCSE results in Mathematics, English, Information Technology and History. He graduated from high school with an IB Diploma with 42 points with maximum marks of 7 (out of 7) in Mathematics, Physics, English and Economics and an excellent Bulgarian diploma with 6.00.

IGCSE (International General Certificate for Secondary Education) is an academic program for secondary education, in which students aged 14-16 are taught in the UK, as well as in prestigious international schools around the world. The learning process ends with external exams which are assessed in Cambridge.
Integrated into the course of an English language secondary school, the IGCSE program at Zlatarski International School of Sofia prepares our students for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in the 11th and 12th grades and helps students consolidate their knowledge in their chosen profiles in the Sixth form.
