Science Fair 2013 at Zlatarski International School

IMG_1888The time for the annual Science Fair at Zlatarski International School is approaching. As usual it will take place right before the end of the school year on 25th and 26th June 2013. This will be an important event for the students from 11 IB classes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology as they will have to present their Group 4 Projects. The topic for their independent multidisciplinary research this year is Water. Working on it we visited the Water treatment plant in Bistrica and learned about water purification systems. Students’ projects will be assesses for personal skills according to the International Baccalaureate’s Internal Assessment criteria – motivation, cooperation, communication with others, and perseverance in completing the project. Each student contributions will be assessed by the teachers as well as by the peers team members.

Most of the 10th  graders are ready, but some are still preparing the final touches of their personal science projects. Hopefully they will present carefully thought of experiments that have the potential to greatly improve students’ final grades in Biology. The personal science project has become a formal requirement for young biologists. They will present posters showing the research question and relevant variables, the procedure, results and conclusions they reached and exhibit some of their experimental work.

But the Science Fair is not only about assessment! On the 25th June you can make your dreams come true by launching your very own rocket or creating a personal cosmetic line! There will be exhibition of 3D models of molecules made by the 10th and 11th graders. Also in the program there are games and eco-cinema and loads of fun! Check out the detailed program! The aim of the Science Fair is to give Zlatarski School students an opportunity to have fun and enjoy science by experiencing an open forum where everyone can demonstrate their knowledge and skills and learn from everyone else – old or young.
